Start with observable evidence

Adult fleas are small, laterally flattened, and jump; flea dirt looks like dark specks that may turn reddish when moistened.

Prevention
Make the property less useful to fleas and ticks

- Reduce leaf litter and dense brush along frequently used yard edges
- Check people and pets promptly after time in brushy areas
